World Green Building Week

The leaves are beginning to change colour but this season red, orange, and yellow hues are put on hold – this September, the world is going green!

September 20-26, 2010 will be an action-filled week globally as it marks World Green Building Week. Countries around the world will hold events in major cities with the aim of raising the profile of green building.

“The World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) is a union of national Green Building Councils from around the world, making it the largest international organization influencing the green building marketplace.”

In 2007, the WorldGBC established a central Secretariat in Canada, located in the LEED Gold Living City Campus near Toronto! Suitably, between September 22-25 Toronto will be representing Canadian and International Green Building efforts as Sustainable Buildings Canada host the 6th annual Green Building Festival. The festival will take place at the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto and will feature IIDEX/Neocon, Canada’s National Architecture and Design Expo & Conference. Special guest Mayor Sam Adams of Portland, Oregon (America’s Greenest City) will be present at the September 22nd networking lunch.

The Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC), one of 61 WorldGBC member councils, will be offering their Canadian perspective during a Webinar to be held on September 22, 2010. The CaGBC’s Green Up program will be the point of focus. Event details will be released on September 13th on the CaGBC website.

Also, on September 23rd don’t forget to access the World Green Building Council’s Special Report: “Tackling Global Climate Change – Meeting Local Priorities” by going to their website at worldgbc.org
