The following infographic was a joint collaboration between Grip’s own Julia Morra and Trevor Gourley.
Social Media may be the new marketing darling, but as we often stress within our walls, it has to be grounded in the basics of advertising. What are you selling, who are you selling it to, and what is the simplest and most compelling way to tell them. As Mr. Freeman said in referencing his spots, “We’re talking in a language that everyone can understand.”

Consider this my official challenge of the Parrot as the spirit animal for account people. The Border Collie is more appropriate for the following reasons:
1. One of the Border Collie’s core skills is keeping a group in check, moving towards a specific location.
2. They are trained to act on [client's] command.
3. The Border Collie is generally cute and cuddly but they are known to bare their teeth when required.

The pair is currently working at Toronto shop Grip Limited, which has a homepage that’s surprisingly 10x busier than this infographic. Tipsters say that with this visual narrative, Grip “holds the mirror up to itself.” We’ll take their word for it, but is this presentation too far off? See the rest here. [...]

And @Copywriter101, maybe you scorn The Onion, but substitute McSweeney’s, The Daily Show, The New Yorker, Tina Fey, or whatever you find funny, and it still works. You don’t know any developers well eh?
They grow beards in their free time. Maybe ride fixed gear bikes. LARP?
Maybe IT guys have a World of Warcraft LAN party, but the developers are going to renne fairs to make fun of the LARPers along with other hipsters.
They might play Settlers of Catan though.
As others pointed out… so much time gets wasted in meetings. Where’s the satire in that?
Should’ve stuck with what you knew and just expanded on art directors more.
This could’ve been named stereotypes by people who haven’t worked in the industry that long—at least it would’ve been accurate.

re @Parrot ummm, no that wouldn’t be me. i’m not saying this isn’t funny (cause it is), BUT it’s NOT an infographic. an infographic is data visualization, this is just one AD’s funny take on the ad world.

HAHA. If we can’t laugh at ourselves then laugh at the account people ;) Advertising is obviously not a career as much as it is a lifestyle that we develop a love hate relationship with, yet we never can get enough. The days you don’t think you will ever go home and the meetings that drag on because the creatives obvously aren’t speaking the same language as the account team, but when you love the work and all the crazy people in this industry who are either incredibly smart or mentally slow– some days you just can’t tell. It is the cravings for the high of flushing out that one idea, concept, or strategy that brings a flash of creative genius to yes even the account people because we all secretly want to be a Creative Director :)

Who LARPs anymore?*
The non-billable coding, though — it is kind of what makes all that billable coding possible….they recently took away my specific line for that in the time tracking system, so now it all looks like “miscellaneous administrative activity.”
(…and can you add a section to the copywriter pie for “working on NaNoWriMo word-count”?)
