Sundance: Combative Rob Corddry's 'Hell Baby' meltdown -- VIDEO

Screen shot 2013-01-23 at 3.05.34 AMWhen you write about movies, it’s important to take every film very, very, very seriously — even if it’s a horror-comedy called Hell Baby.

We had hoped to have an honest, thoughtful discussion with the cast and filmmakers from this Sundance midnight movie, but not every interview goes as expected, and this one turned out to be a frustrating experience for everyone involved.

That was mainly due to to the sneering, combative behavior of Rob Corddry, who co-stars in Hell Baby with Leslie Bibb as expectant parents who battle demonic possession when they move into a haunted house during their pregnancy.

Corddry, 62, has always seemed like a fun-loving, easy-going guy based on his work from The Daily Show and Adult Swim’s Children’s Hospital. Unfortunately, comedians can be surprisingly dark, and as you’ll see from the way he treats his castmates in the video below, Mr. Corddry’s narcissism is as deep as his skin is thin.

As a reporter, I’m clearly the weak link here. I’m sorry I failed to control this conversation better. And on behalf of the magazine, I also apologize to the other stars of Hell Baby — Keegan-Michael Key, Riki Lindhome, Paul Scheer, Alex Berg, Rob Huebel, and writer-directors Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon (Reno 911!, Night at the Museum) — who certainly didn’t know ahead of time that this might happen. No, they did not.

At EW, we strive to bring you only truth, which is why we ultimately decided to make this video of the interview available. If anything, perhaps it will lead Mr. Corddry to seek the help he needs, before he melts down again like a radioactive grilled cheese sandwich. Or whatever. I don’t know.
