A Note from the Training Director

San Diego Bicycle Club

Bruce Stromko, former SDBC Training Director, board member, and “Cyclist of the Year” recipient, returned to Union, NJ, three weeks ago for his 50th high school reunion, and had a heart attack the day after. He ended up being in the hospital for nine days due to getting a stent and having pneumonia on top of it. He kiddingly said that they almost had to add a sticker to the back page of the reunion program for those who are deceased. He returned to San Diego last week and rode with the Coronado Crown City Cyclists on Saturday. Bruce will not be doing Torrey until he gets his strength back and looks forward to joining SDBC for a ride sometime in the not-too-distant future.

A Note From The Bike Coalition Liaison

SDBC Logo Remember, your SDBC membership includes membership in the San Diego County Bike Coalition which includes a number of benefits. See the new coalition website at

Safety tip of the week: When merging left… don’t wedge the cars! Turn from the rear!

  1. Leader signals left (but does not yet move left).
  2. You signal left when you see someone in front of you signal left.
  3. Last person makes sure it’s clear, yells “clear!”, and moves left.
  4. When you hear “clear!” behind you, double-check (look back), yell “clear!” to those ahead, and then you move left.
  5. Communicate! Person on the right follows lead of person on his or her left. Stay together. Look PRO!
