Mike Johnson Hugh WoodMichael Johnson serves as Managing Director for Hugh Wood Inc., where he previously was Senior Vice President.  Prior to that, Mike worked for Aon Risk Services and Industrial Indemnity.  He earned his BA in Business Administration from the Armed Forces Institute.  Hugh Wood Inc. was founded in 1982 when CEO Hugh Wood designed and implemented a highly innovative real estate insurance policy form.  Originally intended mainly for multi-national clients and high value real estate exposures, it has evolved into a large national and international program that remains a benchmark for real estate insurance.  Hugh Wood Inc. now manages and insures clients in 50 countries including several market niches, notably ports and marine terminal operators. 


Ali Nikkhoo Horizon 

Ali Behruz Nikkhoo serves as Vice President and General Manager of Horizon Lines.  He is responsible for operational, sales and strategic activities in the Hawaiian market.  Ali joined Sea-Land in 1977, commencing the carrier's Iran service upon graduation from Lamar University in Texas.  He moved on to positions in Madrid, Dubai, Houston, and Baltimore before being named Port Manager in Long Beach, California USA in 1987.  He then worked in Djakarta, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, and London, serving in senior management positions that involved both operational and commercial accountability.  He was owner and president of Honor Truck and Transfer Inc. in Long Beach from 2003-2011.

APP's Fly-in, Fly-out Seminar on "Effective Rail Connections for Ports" on November 16th at Portland International Airport received very positive reviews for providing valuable information to help port leaders better serve tenants and customers by creating stronger connections with Class 1 rail carriers, short line and regional railroads, and rail spurs. 

Attendees also had the opportunity to tour the Port of Portland's facilities immediately after the Seminar.  The tour included a thorough look at the port's expansive rail connections as well as marine facilities.

Port of Bellingham, Washington USA Chief Financial Officer Rob Fix
has been selected by the port's Board of Commissioners to become the port's new executive director.  Rob had been serving as interim executive director since April of this year.

"Given his experience, local knowledge, and the great strides he has made in the last few months, particularly on waterfront negotiations, we recognized that he was the best person to serve as the next executive director," said Commission President Scott Walker.

Rob has been employed at the port since 2008, serving as both chief financial officer and deputy director.  Fix also managed the port's real estate division in 2011.  Prior to joining the port, he was a partner and chief financial officer for hotel management company MTM Luxury Lodging and subsidiary FST Asset Management.  He is a graduate of Washington State University with a Bachelor's Degree in hotel and restaurant administration.  Rob takes the place of former executive director Charlie Sheldon.
The Port Authority of Guam can move forward with nearly $3 Million in security upgrades following approval of the construction contract by the Guam Public Utilities Commission.  The Port Security Enhancements Project will include construction of the Maritime and Port Security Operations Center and the command and control integration of all security and communications systems.

The entire project is 100% federally funded from multiple grants awarded to the Port.

"This is a critical multiple component project that includes the construction of our Maritime and Port Security Operations Center and also will integrate all of our security and communications systems to streamline and improve our response to any situation," said Port General Manager Mary C. Torres.  "This project further enhances our Maritime Security capabilities as well as brings us in line with the National Preparedness Goal and the 2003 Guam Homeland Security Strategy."

Now that PUC approval has been obtained, the Port's legal counsel will finalize the contract with Maeda Pacific.  The project is anticipated to last at least 12 months.
