APP PEOPLE: RAIL RETURNS TO COOS BAY

Photo Credit: Port of Coos Bay

The Oregon International Port of Coos Bay is about to celebrate the re-opening of a vital rail link from Coos County on the Oregon Coast to the Willamette Valley. The line was previously shut down in 2007 due to safety concerns.  The Port purchased the line in 2009 with assistance from state and federal grants.  All nine tunnels along the route, along with thousands of railroad ties, have been repaired for safe operation.  Sand is currently being removed from the tracks.  The newly-restored rail service has the potential to greatly reduce shipping costs for companies operating on the Oregon Coast.

Congratulations, Port of Coos Bay!
