Dear
Y Supporter,

2015 has come and gone; in its wake, we are left with a lot of gratitude. From our dedicated volunteers and passionate donors, to enthusiastic event participants and new corporate partners, we can't thank you enough.

As we forge into 2016 we are excited about our upcoming Y Strong Kids Campaign which includes the newly revamped Y Cycle for Strong Kids event; the Y Golf Classic moving to a brand new location; and of course, celebrating all of you who support the Y as we work together to fulfill our mission and provide support to some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

Last year you helped countless kids experience new things and create lifelong memories through activities like summer camp, and swimming lessons. As we head into this year's Y Strong Kids Campaign, we hope you will join us once again to help make a truly life-changing and positive impact on the lives of some of our communities most vulnerable children. Only with your support, can we help each child realize their full potential.

Y Golf Classic

This past fall, 144 golfers took to the greens at the beautiful Rivermead Golf Club for the 6th annual
Y Golf Classic . Led by co-chairs Keith Taggart and Doug Burnside, the Y Golf Classic was a resounding success yet again this year, thanks in large part to the outstanding efforts by committee members Brian Scott, Wayne Jennings, Jim Taggart, Bruce Hillary, Ted Fobert, Jean Laurin, and Doug Lazier. Golfers were treated to blue skies, lush fairways, a delicious dinner, and tons of friendly competition and great networking opportunities.

This sponsorship-based tournament raised over $140,000 for the YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital Region! A special thanks goes out to our group of title sponsors: ENCON Group Inc., ACE Group Canada, Temple Insurance Co., Aviva Canada, and XL Catlin.

We hope you can join us next year as we bid farewell to Rivermead, and continue our tournament at the prestigious Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club for the 7th Annual Y Golf Classic on Monday September 26, 2016!

Heart of Gold

You have the unique opportunity to be part of an exclusive club of monthly donors who have

Hearts of Gold!

Are you a member of the Y Fitness facilities? Do you make a monthly donation in support of the charitable mission of the Y? If you answered yes to both of these questions, you will automatically receive membership to this exclusive club. If you answered no to one or both questions don't fret, it is easy to join in!

While many members of the Y enjoy the health benefits of our facilities, many other community members turn to the Y for the many other resources and support we provide: vital programs such as shelter, employment services, and safe and affordable childcare.

Did you know that for a little over $2 / month you

can provide something as important as a warm meal for someone taking refuge in our emergency shelter? Or that for $9/ month you can help the Y deliver important programming, such as a life skills session for youth in the Second Stage Housing program.

To find out more about joining the Heart of Gold Club today, please visit the membership desk at any of our Health, Fitness, and Aquatics facilities.

Y Story: Brian Scott

Peter Nicholson of WCPD (left), and Jack Silverstein  from the YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital Region (centre), present Brian Scott (right) with the Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser Award.

Can you imagine being an integral part of an organization for over

25 years? Brian Scott has done just that! Originally joining the YMCA-YWCA as a member, Brian was quickly recruited to the organization's Board of Directors where his professional experience was put to good use. Since that day two decades ago, Brian has touched almost every Y fundraising effort in the National Capital Region. Relentless in his mission to support the Y, he has worked tirelessly to not only help raise vital funds, but to establish new and strong partnerships for the organization.

This past November, the YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital Region had the privilege of joining Brian, his wife Monica, his son Matthew, and dignitaries from around the city as he was honoured with the 2015 Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser award at the Association of Fundraising Professionals Philanthropy Awards Dinner.

As president of Smith Petrie Carr & Scott Insurance Brokers Ltd., we know Brian's passion and dedication to improving our community extends well beyond the walls of the YMCA-YWCA. We are very honoured to count Brian amongst our friends and we hope you join us in congratulating him on this prestigious award.

Y Thanks!

Tom Anzi from Swim Ottawa presents Ian Atwell and Meighan Hartley from the YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital region with a cheque in support of Carlingwood aquatics programs.

Swim Ottawa hosted the 3rd Annual Willy Lee Masters Meet this past November. This exciting, energetic, and physically challenging event has raised funds for aquatics programs at our Carlingwood Y location. We can't think of a better way to honour their friend and long-time Y supporter, Willy Lee, than by providing the opportunity for others to participate in the sport he loved.

Employees at Smith Petrie Carr & Scott took the time this past holiday season to spread some cheer to two families in our city. Employees gathered and purchased gifts on the wish lists of two deserving families who were unable to purchase the items for themselves and their children, making it a very Merry Christmas for all involved.

FMAV presented the Y with a cheque

This past December representatives from FMAV toured the Shenkman Residence tower and made a donation in support of the Y Housing programs.

for $2,000 this past December as part of a broader campaign to support housing programs in Y's across Canada. We are so grateful for this partnership and can't thank them enough for supporting this vital service.

Thanks in part to the Christmas Cheer Foundation, this holiday season was a made a little brighter for residents of two of our programs at the Shenkman Residence Tower. Both the Second Stage Housing program and the TRY Supportive Housing for Women program received funding and were able to enjoy a Christmas meal. We are so grateful to receive support from this wonderful foundation that works to help feed those in need, and helps provide extra support to those who need a helping hand during the holiday season.

Jonathan Chow (centre) receives the
Mayor's City Builder Award presented by
City of Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson (right)
and Kitchissippi Ward Councillor Jeff Leiper (Left), at the City Council meeting on December 9, 2015.

Throughout the past year, the National Arts Centre has generously donated tickets for our Y residents and clients to enjoy. From plays to ballets, members of our Y Family have been treated to a wonderful evening out at the theater -an opportunity many of them would not be able to otherwise experience. Thank you to the National Arts Centre for your generous gift!

The Y was honoured to nominate Jonathan Chow, a student at Ashbury College, for the Mayor's City Builder Award. As Jonathan has been a great supporter and volunteer of the Y, along with many other organizations across the city, we were excited to hear he had won this prestigious award. Congratulations Jonathan, and thanks for inviting us to help celebrate this accomplishment!

Thank You

It is your commitment and support that allows the YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital Region to help children, youth, adults, and families, in our community, to live engaging and more rewarding lives. On behalf of the 70,000 individuals who are served by the Y annually, thank you.

With sincere gratitude,
