October 2009 Highlights

Dear Reader,

Mal at P.SemakauIn just over two months, world leaders will meet at the UN Climate Conference in Copenhagen. In their hands lie the power to reduce carbon emissions and global warming, if they heed the latest scientific evidence: developed countries must reduce emissions by 40% (not just previous 10-16%) by 2020 to avoid dangerous climate change.

Every vote, action is needed, including yours to influence your political leader and to take concrete action in mitigating climate change. You can also STAND UP and TAKE ACTION Against Poverty and For Climate Justice in support of the Millenium Development Goals from 16 - 18 October.

Yes, it's been a while since you last heard from me. Just been busy figuring out how to help businesses embrace greener practices in the most practical way, to help in the transition from intention to application. So I started Eco Solutions consultancy with Anders Nilsson, a Swede who tinkers with technologies, and loves Gaia. I hope you'll support us by considering eco-friendly ways of living.

Everyday, Gaia Discovery brings you inspiring, fact-sturdy and not-quite-so-ordinary stories by committed and specialist contributors. In this picture, I reflect on natural habitats at Singapore's offshore landfill that could have only sprung to life with some advance planning - conservation mode.

Here's to greener living!
